You are innocent until proven guilty. This is a fundamental juridical principle, which most Danes are aware of. But only very few of us have experienced how the law and order unfolds in the Danish Legislation.
In DR2’s new series “The Defenders”, we follow three defense lawyers in their work with different cases. The programs give an insight into the defending of clients who have been accused of dealing narcotics, attempted murder and bank robbery; how a case can be judged differently depending on the courthouse; and how law is not only about stiff paragraphs in a book, but also a question of interpretations and emotions.
In the four programs we follow the role of the defender closely, as well as how the justice system works with the principle of someone being innocent until proven guilty. Every doubt is to the benefit of the accused. We take a closer look at the legal certainty of immigrants, and what consequences the politicians’ continuous changing of laws has in reality.
