Follow Stellah and Thomas who both dream of having each their career. Like young people everywhere they are preoccupied with parties, love affairs and dreams for the future. But the two live in the poor slums of Nairobi where miracles are needed to escape poverty and deprivation.

Thomas and Stellah are classmates and about to finish secondary school. Like young people anywhere they are preoccupied with exams, friends, love affairs and plans for the future. But Stellah and Thomas live in Pumwani, a poor slum area on the outskirts of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

Two thirds of the 60,000 people living in the Pumwani area of Nairobi, Kenya survive on less than a dollar a day. 12% are infected by HIV and 5,000 children have been orphaned by the disease.

Stellah wants to become an air-hostess. She has the looks and is good at languages. But her family can’t afford the training course. Now she is hoping for a miracle. Thomas plans to study medicine.

The first part of The Students from Pumwani follows Stellah and Thomas as they sit at their A-levels. We join them at exams and follow them at leavers’ parties. In the second part of the film, the students’ great dreams are to be realized.
