Six million European Jews lost their lives during the Second World War. The Holocaust became the fate of two out of three Jews in Europe. After the Nazis assumed power in Germany, their propaganda of hate developed step by step, culminating in the worst genocide of the 20th Century. Throughout German-occupied Europe, Jews were systematically deported to Nazi concentration camps. But Denmark remained an exception … until October 1943. What happened during those dark and dramatic days? How did it feel to have to flee from your home and country, not knowing what the future held? In this documentary film some of the few remaining survivors, who personally experienced the escape from Denmark in October 1943, tell their story. Danes whose lives would be changed forever.
