My Wonderful Life as a Vegetable
Despite the fact that he is paralyzed from head to toe, he maintains that he is now a happier man than he was before he was hit by the incurable disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
My Wonderful Life as a Vegetable is a film about Birger, his love for life and his wife Jutta. And it is about the insistence on being someone and doing something for others, even if the only thing you can do is blink.
Birger wants to save lives. If he had lived somewhere else, like Sweden for example, he would probably have died years ago. But in Denmark, as an ALS-patient he is offered a respirator; a choice which has kept Birger artificially alive for more than 10 years.
Johan, a Swedish father of two, also has ALS.Unless he gets a respirator, his disease leaves him only a few months left to live. Will Birger succeed in helping him?
