Living in Obscurity
In a Romanian hospital Adi bids his mother farewell. The proper treatment costs money – money the family does not have. And never will have unless Adi gets a job abroad.
Vasile is broke and will never be able to pay off his debts and put his daughter through college. He is reluctant to leave his wife but there is no other way out. This is the everyday ordeals faced by countless families in Eastern Europe.
Poverty forces families apart. Adi and Vasile end up in the West, delivering newspapers. There is money to be made if you are fast – and able to put up with the humiliation from employers tempted to make fast profits by taking advantage of cheap labour.
Some make it, others do not.
