Kony’s Warriors
Kony’s Warriors tells the story of Ida, Richard and Irene— three children who were abducted by the Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in Northern Uganda. Richard and Irene were forced to become guerrilla soldiers, while Ida was given as a ‘wife’ to one of the guerrilla leaders. She was only 15 years old when she had her first baby in captivity.
The three children all managed to escape their imprisonment. This film shows their difficult and hard struggle back to life and the village from which they were once abducted. Richard, Irene and Ida tell us their horrible story, but at the same time they still manage to have hopes and dreams for the future.
According to the UN more than 20,000 children are kidnapped in Northern Uganda and forced to become guerrilla soldiers or sex slaves for the LRA. At one point the situation was so terrible that the children weren’t able to sleep in their own homes — they had to escape into the cities and sleep there. What happens when thesechildren have to return one day? This is the problematic issue that unfortunately exists in too many places in the world today. Kony’s Warriors shows the destiny of three of these children and their attempts of finding their way back into life in spite of the horrors they have encountered.
