GET A LIFE is a reverse suicide story about the nihilistic, 16-year-old Helga, who has just moved to the smalltown village Tornskov with her mother. Helga has recently lost her best friend, Liva, in a tragic accident and has decided that she is now ready to die, too. Helga now spends most of her time searching for the easiest, most pain-free ways to end her own life. However, finding the “perfect” way to commit suicide turns out to be no easy task. Who would have thought that killing yourself would be so unpleasant?! Her last hope is the almost magical suicide pills, The Golden Apples, which were taken off the market years ago. The pills promise the loveliest, most perfect death: The sleeping beauty kind of way. On the other hand, they’re not easy to come by either, so when it turns out that Ingrid, the once-most-popular girl in high school, might be the right entry point, Helga goes all out to get the pills through her. Helga needs seven pills for her suicide mission and Ingrid agrees to provide her with them on one condition: For each pill, Helga must do Ingrid a favor – because nothing in life is for free. This throws Helga into a series of tasks, out of her comfort zone and into an unexpected new friendship with Mads, a dorky, insecure, and way-too-pleasing guy working in the school’s book cellar. And as other feelings gradually begin to blossom between Helga and Ingrid, Helga realizes that there might be more to her new life in Tornskov than expected.
