As international terrorism and organized crime become more and more intertwined, Western nations find themselves increasingly threatened by violence and lawlessness on an unimaginable scale.

In Denmark, a special unit is set up to fight cross-border crime across Scandinavia and to establish operational links with similar teams around the world.

Charismatic detective Hallgrim Hallgrimsson assembles a special law enforcement unit to fight cross-border crime and terrorism. Nicknamed “The Eagle” for his unerring intuition, Hallgrim exudes competence and self-assurance; but behind the dynamic facade is a tormented personality.

Similarly, to the mythical figure of Odysseus, Hallgrimsson is a seeker. His travels throughout Scandinavia and continental Europe lead him not only to new dangers and deadly traps, but also to anguishing confrontations with his own past. Like Odysseus, he too makes many detours as he tries to elude his inner demons rather than battle them and to postpone the end of a journey that might hold nothing but emptiness and despair.

The Eagle won an International Emmy Award for best non-American television drama series in 2005.

There are three seasons; first season October 10th 2004, the second season premiered in Denmark on 9 October 2005 and the third on 8 October 2006. The last episode originally aired in Denmark on 26 November 2006. Every season consists of 8 episodes.

The series was filmed on location in various parts of northern Europe, from Berlin (Germany) and Copenhagen (Denmark) to Stockholm (Sweden), Oslo (Norway) and other locations including Iceland.
